Understanding ADA Laws by State

This page provides an overview of how the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is applied and supplemented across each U.S. state. The ADA is a federal civil rights law that establishes national protections for people with disabilities, including the right to be accompanied by a service dog in public spaces. These core protections apply in every state. However, some states have chosen to adopt additional laws, regulations, or penalties that expand upon or clarify federal ADA standards.

In some cases, we have also included educational resources from advocacy organizations and government agencies. These resources are provided for informational purposes only and should not be considered legal advice or a substitute for professional counsel.
